Week 6: Printing

This week's theme for the 52 week challenge is Printing. This painting doesn't look like it has anything to do with printing. The connection is actually very subtle. Whenever I think of printing, the first thing to come to my mind was A. Malcolm : Printer and Bookseller, which pertains to my favorite book series, Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. I won't give spoilers, but those in the know will know this exact moment in the series. It's REALLY powerful!

While not the best thing I've done, but it was a good practice for a few things. I used my new watercolor pencils for her dress and the way the pigment collected on this rough paper gave it some nice texture. The pencils are interesting to work with. You apply them dry as you would any colored pencil, but once you add water, they behave as would any watercolor pigment. I also practiced a good bit of color blending, light washes, and lost and found. I made a huge mistake on one part and decided to see what would happen if I corrected it with some white gesso. That actually worked ten times better than I thought it would! It's matte and not super noticeable, so for this quick sketch up I'm fine with how it turned out.
